We’re proud to be Queenslanders and to prove it we’re celebrating Queensland Day by hosting Outback Family Fun Day at Peter Dawes Park on the 2nd June 2018.
This year we’re stepping back in time encouraging people to dress in the Spirit Of the Outback period costumes, we’ll have old style entertainment such as wooden croquet, wooden dominoes, wooden naughts and crosses, tin can alley, wooden skittles, Quoits and more. Free sausage sizzle, food and refreshment stalls, free kids rides and entertainment provided and Peoples Choice Award for ‘What being a Queenslander means to me’ competition.
The event runs from 9am to 3pm so make sure you don’t miss this one!
It’s on again this year!
Another weekend with jam packed with fun for all the family. Thursday kicks off with free camping, Friday night will have live entertainment at the Walkabout Creek Hotel with a courtesy bus running back and forth from the grounds. Saturday is the main event!!

Saxby Round Up
Sedan Dip, Races, Rodeo and Campdraft
Sedan Dip has no registered race horses, just a quintessential bush race meeting with the glamour of a wine bar and Fashions on the Field.
Horse and rider put their skills on show at Sedan Dip as they attempt to put a beast around the course. This is one of Australia’s heritage sports.
Rodeo is a entrenched in outback history. Riding a rough horse or working wild cattle on an outback station was and still is a part of everyday life.
Gymkhana is an equestrian event consisting of speed pattern racing and timed games. It’s a lot of fun to watch and great for the whole family.
Julia Creek Turf Club Beach Party Races
The 9th annual Beach Party Races!
Gates open at 12.30pm, with the first race kicking off at 1.30pm.
Adults $10, Member and kids free.
Wear Hawaiian print beach attire, go bold, go matching and win prizes!!
Good Times – DJ Richo playing until late.
Games, lotsa games, slippery slide and slippery slide kickball.
Last race meet of the year so Party, Party, Party!
Julia Creek (McKinlay Shire) Christmas Tree 2018
Bring your whole family and friends along for an enjoyable night as the McKinlay Shire Council turns on and light up the town Christmas Tree.
There will be market stalls, mechanical bull, Neptune inflatable slide and jumping castle.
The Photo Booth will also be here!!
David Whitehead – Outback Music Entertainment – will be singing Christmas Carols on Keyboard then operating DJ set.
The Historical Society will be running a ham wheel on the night with possible spot raffles as well. (TBA)
Food and refreshments available.
Oh, and the most important thing……..Santa arrives at 7pm!
